Help with choosing a laptop for college?

I’ve narrowed down my search to either an HP or Dell laptop. I don’t want a Mac just because I don’t like their OS and the price is over my budget, which is about $400-$800. So, what is your opinion on HP and Dell? Which is better for using in college?

      The battery life lasts lot longer that what you need because carrying around your charger is not fun at all.
